Wedding/Engagements

Posted by Lena at 10:55 AM on September 27, 2004.

I don't know about you but I feel that so many people are getting married in the near future. What's up with people proposing...and weddings coming up. I guess that's good but then it's not good if it's u're friends who probably won't talk to you once they are married.

This past weekend I went to my niece's/cousin's house cause she recently got engaged (on my bday!) and the whole family went over to meet the guys' mom & dad. It was a fun event. His parents are real nice...and they have a beauuuuuuuuuuuutiful car. It's a custom-made ferrari for the mom. Lucky!!! I want a custom-made ferrari!!

Then Saturday I went to my brother-in-law's cousin's wedding. That was so nice! She's an Indian who got married to an American so it was American style wedding with the "I do's" and white wedding dress but we wore Indian. It was at a golf course country club. When people walked in they had to get their picture taken via a polaroid camera and then sign the guestbook under their picture. I ended up being the one who took the pictures so I missed the wedding. But that's okay cause it was nice to help the family and I didn't want anyone else to miss the wedding and I barely met the bride on Friday. So I took the polaroid pictures...and kept thinking of the Outkast song!! hehe I heard that people had to be driven in a golf cart to get to the wedding site!! wow...and then I missed the beginning of the reception cause people were still lingering in and I had to watch the money box/gifts. Indian standard time arrivals. But when I got there for food it was yummy. They had a choice of Indian cuisine or Mexican cuisine...most people went for the Indian. I did too! On the table was caramel candy apples (I thought of Phuong !) as a party favor and a small box containing 1 See's candies. And it was open bar so that was interesting. One girl was throwing up b/4 the dancing started! And luckily I didn't catch the bouquet...whoohoo!!!

Then Sunday I went with my sister to an engagement party. It was at an Indian restaurant so at least I got more Indian food.

But wow...just in September me and my sister know a lot of people that got engaged and I have 3 friends' weddings left for this year but am only going to 2 since 1 is in India.

My Birthday Weekend

Posted by Lena at 11:01 PM on September 20, 2004.

I had SUCH a wonderful and fun weekend!! So sad to see it go but
the memories & pictures (thanks to Dana, Phuong, Jeff and picture takers) will always be there.

Friday I came in to work and right when I got to my desk, there was a cake and gifts! My 2 co-workers bought me a deeeelicious reeses pieces chocolate cake. One of them got me an Astrological Signs book and the other got me a gift bag from Bath & Body (Sweet Pea...smells sooo good). Then Friday night my good friend Sapna + 2 other friends took me to Cheesecake Factory and then we went bowling.

On Saturday, my birthday day, I woke up really early and my sister
bought me pancakes (a tradition we have been doing the past 5 years) and I was watching Anaconda on tv. The snake looked real to me but the movie was scary. Plus too many people got hurt so that kinda sucked. Then my brother-in-law treated me to a haircut (he got one too). We went to this place really close to the house. Then I got home and left to go over to UC Riverside's College of Engineering Alumni event. It was actually pretty fun! It was so nice to see people we haven't seen in many years. And to see a couple of old professors that actually remember us! Then afterwards I went over to Dana & Al's place and they had a cheesecake waiting for me!! So sweet!!! Thank you guys!!! And awesome looking kitchen! Oh and then we all were watching this Indian comedian on Al's computer...he was hilarious! Then I went home and me, my sister, and my brother-in-law went to Chili's for dinner + a drink.

Then Sunday was Hollywood day!! I had such a blast!!! Thank you soooooo much Dana, Al, Phuong, Sze Wan, Roland, Jeff, Lucinda, Ryan, Qi & Cuong!! I feel so special and am really lucky to have friends like you. The restaurant we went to "Cha Cha Cha's" was so cool and yummy. I really liked the bathroom cause you feel like you're in a jungle b/c of the painted walls and the monkey/bird noises. haha And it was so cool getting surprised with the mango cheesecake and candle. Then it was off to Hollywood/Highland which was so cool!! YAY I got my hand pictured with Arnold Swartzeneggar's hand!! And we walked around and ended up going to Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum. It was so weird to see all the stuff that has happened to people. It's like unbelievable!! Then we walked around more and I was able to get some education from my friends that day (ice cream...) haha
Afterwards we went back to the Kodak area and went to Build-a-Bear where I built my bear Kobe! He's so cuuuuute!! YAY! That was actually really fun...specially the fluffing part! Dana also built one, she made a Koala named Cha Cha. Afterwards we went to Cold Stone and I got some yummy Coconut Cream Pie ice cream and then me, Phuong, Dana & Al took off. It was an awesome day and hopefully we can all spend time again like that. After I got home, me and my sister went to my cousin's house cause my niece's b/f proposed to her on Saturday night so we went to congratulate her. I also found out that on Saturday, my cousin got promoted to manager of her store! Wow my bday was good luck for both of them! YAY! After we had dinner, I noticed that they shut off the kitchen lights and everyone looked at me and started singing happy birthday and a cake came out!! That was a surprise too!! I didn't expect that! So my weekend was full of surprises, cakes and wonderful company...what more could I want...

Friday!!

Posted by Lena at 10:06 AM on September 17, 2004.

YAY It's FRIIIIIIDAY!!!!!!!! Don't you just love Fridays??!?!? I do!!
And tomorrow is the best day in the whole world!!! YAY!!! I wish though I didn't have to get a year older...but at least it only comes once a year.
I'm so looking forward to this weekend...it should be fun! Specially cause I have such awesome friends.

Last weekend I saw the movie "Cellular." Has anyone seen it? It was actually pretty good. Me and my friend went for a late movie and wanted to see that and I never even heard of it and was worried that I would fall asleep, but the movie was exciting that it made you stay awake cause it was kinda suspenseful like you wanna know what's gonna happen. So I would recommend it but probably on DVD. Cause movies these days are sooooo expensive! Well unless you use your student ID card.

Yesterday at work was so horrible cause the air conditioning broke!! And I was sitting in a room with like 45-50 computers and breathing students to it got really yucky humid and bleh. And the funny thing was that it was SUCH a nice day yesterday. I hope tomorrow is as nice too!!!

Thursday night TV

Posted by Lena at 03:57 PM on September 10, 2004.

So what did the people who watched "Joey" last night on TV think? I thought it was funny! And I hope that it did well enough that it will last. He is so funny!! And I thought the actress that plays his sister did well too.

What about Apprentice?? WOW it was good!! I love Apprentice. My sister & brother-in-law recently went to New York City and went to the front of Trump Tower and to the NBC store and brought me back a "You're Fired" mug and my sister got a Trump Tower pen. I badly badly need to go visit New York!
I think the cast will be pretty cool this season and it's gonna be stretched out to 18 weeks since there are 18 candidates, well now 17! WHOOHOO!!! That was cool how they got to create a new toy for Mattel, I would love to do that, though coming with ideas is pretty hard.

House of Blues

Posted by Lena at 02:53 PM on September 8, 2004.

On Sunday night, me and 3 other friends went to the House of Blues on Sunset in Hollywood. There was an Indian singer from the group called "Rishi Rich Project" from London coming to perform and I love that group!! I was disappointed though that only the singer from that group came and not the DJ. Oh well, it was still cool seeing him on stage. And it was fun dancing with my friends!

I went bowling over the weekend with my cousin (who treated us) and their kids (my nieces) and 1 of their b/f's and it was funny cause we entered this raffle drawing and during the night they would call out names to win a prize (it was midnight bowling) and they called 1 name and that person didn't claim the prize and I was saying oh I hope they call me or someone from our group. So then they called another name and that person didn't claim their prize. And then I told my niece I never win I'm not gonna get called. And then they called me!!! Out of like 50 people probably!!! WOW I was more happy to be called then for the prize. haha The prize was a ticket for 2 for midnight bowling which is like a $30 dollar deal so not bad. Yea that place was expensive for bowling! But yea it was so cool getting my name called, Go Lena!

California Lotto

Posted by Lena at 01:01 PM on August 29, 2004.

Darn I didn't win!!!!!!! I'm sad now. It was 99 MILLION for yesterdays game!! That's a whole lotta money huh? I bought $5 worth of tickets, my sister bought $5 and my brother-in-law bought $5. And from that $15 dollars, all we got was $2!!! Argh!!! My brother-in-law was up north for business this week again and we told him to buy it there cause up north tickets seem to win it big and he did but we didn't win and guess what, 3 people won the lotto and 2 were from up north!! The other was from Huntington Beach. Oh well...now it's at 7 million. haha I'm getting into the lotto craze! AHH!!!

I'm gonna go meet Dana and Al today at the Irvine Spectrum so I'm excited to see them again! And then my family is celebrating the Indian holiday of Raksha Bandhan. The girls are supposed to tie a band/special decorated yarn around their brothers' (or if you don't have a brother, then a cousin brother) wrist & feed them some Indian sweets and then the brother is supposed to give you a gift. But I'm looking forward to seeing my family again, we haven't had a get-together in 2 months and get some yummy homemade Indian food. Which reminds me, Phuong when you get back in town...lets go for Indian food!!

My weekend

Posted by Lena at 11:19 PM on August 10, 2004.

I had a pretty good weekend this past weekend.
Friday I left work around 2pm cause I had to get to a funeral (the sad part of the weekend) by 3pm. My friend's mom passed away because of stupid breast cancer. The funeral was sad and my friend gave a heart-warming speech. I hope she'll be ok.
Then Friday night, me and my niece went to see "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle." It was a funny movie but kinda dirty, I didn't understand some stuff. So I've decided, I'm not going to marry Kumar anymore! Then we went back to her place (my cousin's house) and rented 13 going on 30. That was such a cute movie!! Such a chick flick but so good! I want to get the CD for that movie!! Awesome 80's songs!! I went to Target today cause it was on sale and it was all sold out....darn.

Then Saturday me and my sister drove down to San Diego to meet our Arizona friends and their friends. We met them on Coronado Island on a beach called Imperial beach. We left my house at 12:30 and didn't get to SD until like 4:30!!!! Darn 5 freeway traffic. So on the way home, we decided to be smart at take the 15 freeway. Phew! Then at night we went to the gaslamp district which has a bunch of clubs, bars and restaurants. It was the first time I was there and it was packed!! We ended up at the Yardhouse and just hung around. It was about 14 people so fun! Then Sunday we drove back home after having lunch at La Jolla Village near UC San Diego. We took this really nice scenic drive and you get an awesome view of the ocean.

So it was a nice weekend...now can't wait till the next one. Weekends rule!!!

Harold and Kumar starts today!

Posted by Lena at 09:54 AM on July 30, 2004.

YAY I wanna go see this movie!!!! Go Kumar!!! Though it makes a wayyyyyyy better last name!

I'm so glad it's finally Friday. This day just takes too long to come. Though my week was good this past week. My brother-in-law's mom, sister and his little niece were in town till Thursday morning so we were entertaining his niece Isha all week. She is soooooo cute and adorable! I took her to the nearby park by our house and she is able to go on the slides and everything by herself but being the worrywart I followed her and I had such a blast going on the slides and swings!! I wish they made playgrounds for 25 years olds! hehe

I also got a chance to go visit Dana and Al at their work. It was nice to see them during the week. And UC Riverside looks so different and wayyyyy too much construction. I didn't see too much but from what I saw driving to the parking lot...wow!!!

Being hooked up

Posted by Lena at 09:21 AM on July 22, 2004.

Sucks! It's no fun...and it's very awkward.
Last Friday, one of our lenders told me that she knows an Indian guy and wants to hook me up with him. She totally over-emphasized him and my co-workers made me go after work with her to meet him. So I did and ewwwwwww.
So I come home and right now my brother-in-law's mom, sister and her baby are here staying with us till next week. So his mom tells me that our across the street neighbor's brother comes over and says are those 2 girls that live in this house your daughters? And she's like one of them is my daughter-in-law and the other is her sister. And he asks if the sister is single and she says yes cause he wants me to meet his friend. So they talk for a while and when I get home she tells me about it and gives me the dude's phone #. I'm like I'm not calling. So Saturday she took me across the street to find out his age and stuff and the brother wasn't there but his sister (our neighbor) told me that he's like 35!!! AH!! So then I get home and we are just about to leave to go shopping and I get a phone call at home and it's the brother. So he tells me about his friend and I ask right away, how old is he. And he's like oh I don't know. Oh gosh!! Anyways...so he's like I gave your # so hopefully you can talk. And I'm like fine whatever. So when we were at Costco he called. He sounded like he had JUST come to America. So I told him to call me after an hour when I get home. So he called and it was so bleh...I felt so weird. Anyways...I found out that he's 40!!!!!!! So that was that and it was over! EWWWWWWWW!!!!! 40!?!?!?!?! MY GOODNESS!! Do I look that old? What was he thinking?!! Argh! I have my co-workers trying to hook me up, my brother-in-law's family, my friends and now my neighbors!!
I've decided...I'm gonna stay single the rest of my life!

Derek Fisher gone

Posted by Lena at 09:01 AM on July 16, 2004.

How could that be?!?! I mean I had the feeling he would leave Lakers but he ACTUALLY left?!?! WHY?!?!?! Does he know that he will NEVER get a ring with Golden State Warriors?!?! AHHHH!!!!!! And to leave to go to another California team??? One up north?!?! Crazy Fisher! I'm gonna miss watching him play.

But I'll still be his fan! But I must root against Golden State Warriors. Boo to them!

Shaq's gone!

Posted by Lena at 12:37 PM on July 14, 2004.

Looks like it's done. Shaq's gone from LA. Shame on him!! It's gonna be sooooooooo weird when Lakers play Heat now!! ARGH!! Now we have to root against Shaq!

ESPN article - Shaq's gone

I'm sure Miami will be happy since Miami Heat tickets will sell like crazy! But now Shaq has lost all opportunity of getting another ring! So phooey on him!
Of course I still like him, he's a cool player, but it's gonna be so strange watching Lakers game without him. I wonder who our center will be now??

Lakers

Posted by Lena at 12:46 PM on July 12, 2004.

Wow Lakers are just totally the talk of the town right now. With Shaq probably gone and Kobe deciding between the Lakers & the Clippers, it's the headline of the NBA and ESPN. Lakers are just cool like that! haha I just hope Fisher decides to stay though it's probably not likely since Payton is gonna stay. But isn't this an interesting pictures...haha Malone looks funny!

* Picture taken from http://www.nba.com *

Speaking of Lakers...
I was at the gym on Sunday (not the normal gym I go to but in a different city) and guess who was also there...Dennis Rodman! An ex-Laker and an ex-Bull. I would have preferred to see Fisher but oh well. It was just exciting to see a famous person. I took my friend to gym as a guest since I had a guest pass and they made us wait for a fitness counselor to fill out some stupid paperwork before he let us in so while we were waiting in the front area, this tall guy comes and is talking to the lady and I look at him and I say to my friend, look at his nose rings! Doesn't that look like Dennis Rodman? And my friend said that is Dennis Rodman and I'm like nah. So then my friend asked the fitness counselor and he said that it was Dennis Rodman and that he comes there sometimes. He was doing cardio when we went in finally. I guess I'm just star struck! haha I wonder why he's using the regular gym and not one like built in his home or something. Maybe he likes attention. Though no one was talking to him or bothering him. Dude I wouldn't! Unless it was Fisher of course!

Harry Potter candy

Posted by Lena at 11:08 PM on July 7, 2004.

I was at Ralphs this morning before work and while I was in the check-out line, guess what I saw?!?! Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans!! And I was looking at it while in line and on the back it says earwax, booger and other normal ones. How cool is that?!? Next time I'm gonna get that. It's pricey compared to other candies but I want to try it...I wonder what earwax tastes like? ewwwwww.....

Fun weekend

Posted by Lena at 11:03 PM on July 6, 2004.

My 4th of July weekend was a lot of fun! My friends from out-of-town were in town so it was cool to see people I haven't seen in a while. One of them (well it's a couple), went to UCR and then ended up moving to New Jersey for work but are now moving to Chicago cause one of them got accepted to U of Chicago for MBA school...I haven't seen them in 2 years! Then the other one came down from Denver, also is from California. And then my friend Annia came down from San Francisco and I was lucky to get to meet her for lunch on Monday before she took off.

I also got to do shopping!! Good shopping weekend. I went to Dana and Al to Ontario Mills. Me and Dana hit the girly clothes stores and looked around. I was looking for capris cause it seems like everyone is wearing them so I want to too! haha Plus they look cool...you can wear a pretty anklet with it! Then we went to Virgin Megastore and saw cd's for .99 cents. Dana bought me the Erasure one. Thank you Dana!! I love the song "Oh L'Amour" by Erasure...80's song. Afterwards I went and found capris at Robinsons May and the Gap. YAY!!

It's always sad to see a fun weekend end. But looking forward to Friday as always!
